The security rights of a Virtual Web Server is set up with both Internet Services
Manager and Windows Explorer. Upon installation of the SurfStatsLive Reporting
Service a choice is presented on whether to create a new Virtual Web Server or
whether to use an existing Virtual Web Server. If it is chosen to create a new
Virtual Web Server a new Virtual Web Server is created with the root path of the
Virtual Web Server pointing to the SurfStatsLive Installation Folder. If an existing
Virtual Web Server is chosen a new Virtual Directory is created that points to the
location of the SurfStatsLive Installation Folder. The SurfStatsLive Installation
Folder (and subfolders of it) contains the ASP pages and other files required that
forms the web server application.
The security permissions (as can be viewed from the Home Directory tab [New
Virtual Web Server] or Virtual Directory tab [Existing Virtual Web Server] in
Internet Services Manager) is to Execute Scripts only, making it not possible for
web clients to execute applications in the SurfStatsLive Installation Folder.
No setup is done in Windows Explorer by the SurfStatsLive Installation to
configure the rights of users accessing the files of the SurfStatsLive Installation
Folder. It is recommended to remove the Everyone Group from the list of users
that have rights to access the SurfStatsLive Installation Folder, add the
IUSR_<ComputerName> account, the SYSTEM group and the Administrators
group.
