SurfStatsLive as a Statistics Bureau
If the log files is not accessible to the SurfStatsLive Service, SurfStatsLive can be set up to
collect data with the aid of JavaScript Code generating hits from the web browser client. The
following needs to be done:
Service Provider (Bureau) Tasks
Have a dedicated Windows 2000/2003 web server on the Internet with the SurfStatsLive Real-
Time Reporting Service installed and then for each client do the following:
Create a Virtual Web Server on a unique IP Address, port and with a unique home directory
with an IIS Administration Tool like Internet Services Manager.
Log into the SurfStatsLive Service with a web browser as a Server Administrator, click on
the Bureau tab. The Virtual Web Servers present on the SurfStatsLive Server will display on
the left.
Click the Virtual Web Server to use (to collect logging data) and click the Refresh link. The
SLCapture .asp file will be created in the Virtual Web Server's root folder and the
JavaScript code for the specific client will be generated and displayed. Send the JavaScript
code to your Client.
Create a profile group and site profile on the Profiles tab that points to the location of the
virtual web servers (created in the previous steps) log files.
Client Tasks
Paste the JavaScript code received into the web pages to track (before the </BODY> tag).
The LinksTracker application, which is available from SurfStats, can be used to simplify this
task.
Upload the web pages to the content web site (of the client not the SurfStatsLive Server).
SurfStatsLive Conversion Tracking
You can track which referrers resulted in a visitor reaching your goal or conversion page with
this option of SurfStatsLive. To do so, you must first define your goal or conversion page as
